The Detroit History Club is thrilled to celebrate ten incredible years with you—our passionate, history-loving members and friends. What began as a small group of friends, hell-bent on exploring and learning Detroit’s history, has blossomed into a massive community of tens of thousands of history-hungry locals and visitors. We couldn’t have done it without you.
As we reflect on our first decade, we’re excited to reimagine what membership in the Detroit History Club means as we enter our second. Changing times and evolving laws regarding private clubs have given us the opportunity to make membership even more meaningful and accessible.
Here’s what’s new:
No Membership Required to Attend Events
Going forward, membership will no longer be required to attend our events. However, members will now enjoy exclusive perks, including:
Advance Notice: Members will receive event information a full week before the general public.
Exclusive Events: Members will receive invitations to two members-only events each year.
Members Project: Each year we will pick a project and tackle it with members' help. For 2025 we have selected a history cookbook, filled with the stories, memories, and recipes from each of our families. Stay tuned for your call to action! We have big plans for making this a cookbook unlike anything you’ve seen before.
Monthly Electronic Newsletter: Enjoy in-depth articles from our historians, tour guides, and friends, plus a monthly challenge to complete at home for a chance to win prizes and fame, peaks into our archives, advanced notice of Detroit History Tours and more.
The Return of History Bedtime Stories
We’re thrilled to announce the return of our beloved History Bedtime Stories! Members will receive a weekly, long-format video story sent directly to their emails every Sunday evening (and available to watch anytime with the member portal). After failed starts and stops with other organizations DHC is bringing this beloved video series back home and self funding it. Your membership dues will empower us to set aside time each week to research and create a History Bedtime Story just for members. Topic requests, wacky side bars into strange tales, and lots of fun for just 58 cents a week!
Exciting New Partnership
Through our new partnership with the Historical Society of Michigan, members will have free, unlimited access to their multi-time monthly History Hounds from Home virtual presentations. These presentations were one of our favorite things this year and we are thrilled to be able to share them with you at no additional cost.
Additional Member Benefits
10% Off All Book Purchases: Members will enjoy exclusive discounts on books in our boutique and online.
Membership Cards: We heard you! You want to keep getting real, physical, membership cards. So we went to the artists. A new, laminated, and sturdy membership card has been designed to withstand wallet wear and tear, while still featuring the DHC beaver we’ve all come to expect.
Existing members can keep their original membership numbers if they wish.
In Person Lecture Events, which have historically been very popular, will be made available to members first, before being released to the general public. Members will enjoy free virtual attendance of any onsite lecture in which virtual attendance is offered, and $5 off in person attendance.
And that’s just the beginning—we have even more surprises in store for our members!
Membership Details
Membership will now cost $30 per year, Membership will now be 12 months from the time of payment, renewal emails will be automatically sent after 11 months.
We’re beyond grateful for the support and enthusiasm you’ve shown over the years. As we embark on this next chapter, we can’t wait to share even more stories, events, and adventures with you.
