The Dossin Great Lakes Museum, 100 The Strand, Detroit, MI 48207
Join The Detroit History Club for an adults-only history scavenger hunt through the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. The Dossin Great Lakes Museum, an iconic maritime museum located on the picturesque Belle Isle Park along the Detroit River, is dedicated to showcasing Detroit's pivotal role in national and regional maritime history. Spanning 16,000 square feet, the museum features a staggering amount of fascinating exhibits, including one of the largest collections of model ships in the world, and the bow anchor of the ill fated Edmund Fitzgerald.
Together with your team of 1 to 8 players, you will sleuth out historical artifacts and exhibits, discovering items detailing the history and ships of the Great Lakes. All while learning about the museum's origins, which date back to its founding in 1949 as the City Maritime Museum aboard the J.T. Wing schooner.
Throughout the evening, your team will embark on a scavenger hunt that takes you through the museum's exhibits, exploring every showcase and display for clues to your next prize. Use your wits and knowledge to solve clues both inside and outside the museum, learning all the while but keeping an eye on the clock. All participants will leave with an armful of collected prizes, but the first three teams to complete all of the challenges will also receive bragging rights, Detroit History Club swag, and Detroit-made prizes.
This event is designed for adults 18 years old and older to enjoy a lively and social atmosphere as you explore the closed-to-the-public museum with fellow history nerds as your only accompaniment. No previous knowledge is needed to play or to win, however, good walking shoes and a sense of humor and adventure sure don’t hurt your chances.
Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to experience the Dossin Great Lakes Museum like never before. From shipwrecks to record-breaking freighters, prohibition smuggling to muskrat trapping, and pleasure liners to hydroplanes to rescue helicopters and everything in between, it’s going to be a heck of a night on the water.
