St. Hyacinth Church, 3151 Farnsworth, Detroit, Michigan, 48211
Steeples and Stories is an ongoing program presented by The Detroit History Club; It pairs a historic house of worship tour with a presentation about an aspect of history related to the house of worship, the neighborhood, or the community it serves.
On the sleepy corner of McDougall and Farnsworth, you'll find one of Detroit's oldest ethnic parishes, St. Hyacinth Church. St. Hyacinth's has stood as a sentinel since 1908, at the heart of a neighborhood that has seen change, challenge, and controversy. Members of the parish joyfully invite you to explore the enduring beauty of this historically landmarked church. From stained glass to Polish heritage, frescos to mosaics, and religious iconology to iconic Detroit beauty - it is a must see church.
You'll learn how Detroit's Poletown Plant forever changed the physical and spiritual landscape of the neighborhood during a discussion led by Jeff Pollock of The Detroit History Club. In partnership a tour of the gorgeous space will be provided by one of St. Hyacinth’s excellent parish docents.
Ample time will be made available for personal photography, and cameras are welcome.
Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable footwear and respectful casual attire. The church does not have a dress code but kindly asks guests to be mindful of the space in choosing their outfits.
The ticket price includes parking, access to the church, tour, and presentation. A donation to the church is also included in each ticket sale.
